'GLOW' Trailer Introduces Alison Brie-Led Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling are ready to rumble.

Netflix dropped the trailer for its upcoming wrestling comedy GLOW, showing in live and neon color the origin story of how the stars of the 1980s female wrestling comedy came to be.

Alison Brie stars in the '80s-set series from Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan as Ruth Wilder, an out-of-work actress who finds one last chance for stardom when she auditions for the first-ever women's wrestling TV show. The trailer previews the 11 Hollywood misfits who join Ruth in the ring, their director-coach (Marc Maron) and Ruth's best friend-turned-rival, soap star Debbie Egan (Betty Gilpin).

Along their journey to superstardom, the ladies of GLOW — inspired by the real women's wrestling TV series of the same name that ran from 1986 to 1990 — are shown succumbing to racial stereotypes to create their wrestling characters and dealing with Hollywood hurdles of sexism. "Lady wrestlers, I get it. Women can do anything men can do. Blah, blah, blah," a man sums up.

The nearly three-minute clip ends with a peek at Ruth rising to her GLOW potential when, dressed in full wrestler's regalia, she cheers on a rapt audience from the corner of the ring.

GLOW, which releases its 10 episodes June 23 on Netflix, is created by showrunners Liz Flahive (HomelandNurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie, Orange Is the New Black,
), with Kohan and Tara Herrmann serving as executive producers.
