CBS All Access is reinvesting in its first original scripted series.

The Good Fight has been renewed for a second season set to premiere in early 2018, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

“We’re only a few episodes into the first season and the reaction from CBS All Access subscribers and critics alike has been phenomenal,” CBS Interactive president and COO Marc DeBevoise said Wednesday in a statement. “This series and its characters are just beginning and we can’t wait to see where Robert and Michelle King, their creative team and the amazing cast take The Good Fight next.”

The Good Wife spinoff, from original creators and showrunners Robert and Michelle King, picks up one year after the events of the flagship series' finale, when Diane (Christine Baranski) loses her entire life savings in a Ponzi scheme and must start all over at a new law firm. Cush Jumbo and Sarah Steele also reprise their roles from the original series, which also stars Rose Leslie, Delroy Lindo, Erica Tazel and Justin Bartha.

The first season of the spinoff has also welcomed several impressive guest stars from the original, including Matthew Perry, Carrie Preston, John Benjamin Hickey and Denis O'Hare, among others.

The Kings executive produce The Good Fight with Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, Brooke Kennedy and Alison Cross. The legal drama hails from CBS Television Studios, in association with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions.

Like The Good Wife before it, The Good Fight has drawn strong reviews thus far, with THR TV critic Daniel Fienberg calling it a "satisfying" follow-up.The pickup comes exactly halfway through the drama's 10-episode first season.

Originally intended to launch in the spring as CBS All Access' second original scripted endeavor, The Good Fight's premiere was moved up following delays on the streamer's other original series, Star Trek: Discovery, which still does not have a premiere date.

CBS gave The Good Fight an extra boost by airing the premiere episode on its linear channel on Feb. 19, which drew 7.2 million viewers. Going into the show's launch, CBS All Access heavily promoted the series and also logged record sign-ups for CBS All Access on Feb. 8, the day the network telecast the Grammys. However, CBS All Access has not yet revealed how many are streaming The Good Fight, taking a page from streamers like Netflix and Amazon.

"We've not really had conversations about the numbers. In terms of the creative, they've been really enthusiastic and supportive," Michelle King told THR earlier this month.

CBS All Access, which also hosts libraries of older CBS shows as well as unscripted entry Big Brother: Over the Top, costs $5.99, and $9.99 for a commercial-free option.

Before The Good Fight, The Good Wife ran for seven seasons on CBS before its May 2016 finale.
