The Good Fight is bringing back another familiar face.

Gary Cole is set to reprise his Good Wife role of Kurt McVeigh, famed ballistics expert and Diane Lockhart's (Christine Baranski) husband, on the upcoming spinoff, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Picking up one year after the events of the Good Wife series finale, The Good Fight centers on an enormous financial scam that has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Diane's goddaughter Maia (Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie), while simultaneously wiping out her mentor’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, the pair join Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.

Introduced late in Good Wife season one, Cole made 14 appearances throughout the CBS drama's seven-season run as Kurt, a love interest for Diane. The two eventually tied the knot in season five. However, their marriage entered shaky territory in the final episodes of the series, when Lucca questioned Kurt on the stand about whether he had an affair. Kurt never answered the question, and it was unclear whether Lucca had asked the question simply to hurt his credibility and help Alicia (Julianna Margulies) fight for Peter (Chris Noth) or if there was truth to the allegations.

Diane made her feelings about the situation known in the final moments of the episode, when she memorably slapped Alicia across the face and walked away, subsequently ending their proposed partnership and their friendship. It still remains to be seen just where Diane and Kurt stand when The Good Fight premieres in February.

The first episode of the spinoff will first air on CBS before moving to CBS All Access. The streamer's first original scripted series began production last month in New York for a 10-episode first season.

might very well appear as Alicia Florrick in the courtroom with Diane," Baranski tells THR about the forthcoming CBS All Access offshoot."]

The cast also includes Delroy Lindo, Erica Tazel, Paul Guilfoyle, Bernadette Peters and Sarah Steele, who will reprise her role from the original series.

The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King serve as showrunners on The Good Fight, and co-wrote the premiere with Phil Alden Robinson. The Kings will executive produce the series with Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, Alison Cross and Brooke Kennedy.

Cole's return marks one of several small-screen roles for the Emmy-nominated actor, who stars on HBO's Veep and PBS' Mercy Street, which also is executive produced by Scott and Zucker. In addition to voice work on Bob's Burgers, Family Guy and Archer, his film credits include Office Space, Pineapple Express and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. He next will be seen in Law & Order: SVU's Donald Trump-inspired episode, airing later this month. Cole is repped by Gersh and Envoy Entertainment.
