‘Grace and Frankie’ Renewed for Season 5 at Netflix
Netflix is sticking with Grace and Frankie.
The streaming giant has renewed the comedy starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin for a fifth season. In addition, RuPaul will be joining the upcoming season as a guest star. He will play Benjamin Le Day, a formidable and quick-witted adversary who faces off with Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin).
Grace and Frankie first debuted on the platform in May 2015, and marked Fonda and Tomlin's first project together since the 1980 film 9 to 5. On the show, the pair star as women whose lives are turned upside down when their husbands reveal they are gay and leave them for each other. Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie form an unlikely and unbreakable bond and face their uncertain futures head-on.
Grace and Frankie’s third season earned nine major award nominations, the most of any prior season, including Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for both Fonda and Tomlin, a Writers Guild Award nomination and an NAACP Image Award nomination. Produced by Skydance Television for Netflix, the show hails from Friends alum Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris.
RuPaul, for his part, was recently a recurring guest star on this past season of Comedy Central's Broad City. He is, of course, best known as the host and executive producer of the reality competition series RuPaul's Drag Race, for which he has won two Emmys.
