Greg Berlanti and Martin Gero are getting political.

The Blindspot duo have scored a hefty put-pilot commitment from NBC for drama Republic.

The project is described as a hopeful political drama that follows the newly minted female chief of staff to a moderate Republican president. With their administration in dire crisis, they find themselves under fire from extremists on both sides, defending their well-intentioned actions both politically and legally.

Alex Berger (Blindspot, The Mentalist) will pen the script and executive produce alongside Warner Bros. Television-based Greg Berlanti Productions and Gero's Quinn's House banner. Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter will also exec produce the hourlong drama.

Republic marks Berlanti's first sale of the 2017-18 broadcast season. It marks the latest collaboration for Berlanti and Blindspot showrunner Gero. The duo next have ABC drama Deception, a magic procedural described as Now You See Me meets Castle.

Berlanti is on the cusp of making TV history. The prolific showrunner — who exec produces NBC's Blindspot, ABC's Deception and The CW's Black Lightning, The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Riverdale, as well as Lifetime's You and DC Entertainment digital series Titans — will become the first showrunner with 11 series on the air with his next pickup.

Berlanti had multiple sales last broadcast development season that resulted in four pilot orders — including Deception, Black Lightning, The CW's Searchers and ABC comedy Raised by Wolves.
