ABC's Grey's Anatomy firefighter spinoff has found its captain.

Actor Miguel Sandoval has been tapped to play the series regular role of Capt. Pruitt in the upcoming Shonda Rhimes-produced midseason drama.

The 10-episode, as-yet untitled spinoff, picked up straight to series, is set in Seattle and focuses on firefighters from the captain down the ranks to the newest recruit in their personal and professional lives. The castmembers are expected to be introduced in an episode of the flagship series this season.

Pruitt is described as tough and respected — and loved by his subordinates. He's a progressive thinker who advocates for his crew, even if it means standing up to his superiors. He's been offered promotions in the past, but he's declined because he'd rather be on the front line than behind a desk.

This is Sandoval's second trip to Shondaland. He guest starred on a season nine episode of Grey's Anatomy as Hank, a man who brought his husband in for treatment. The actor's credits also include HBO's upcoming Amy Adams starrer Sharp Objects. Sandoval previously starred opposite Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice grad Kate Walsh on NBC's short-lived comedy Bad Judge. More recently, he recurred on BBC America's Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Sandoval is repped by Greene & Associates and Link Entertainment.

Sandoval joins a cast in the Grey's Anatomy spinoff that includes leading lady Jaina Lee Ortiz, Grey's regular Jason George, Grey Damon, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, Jay Hayden and Barrett Doss.

The series is expected to debut midseason. A formal date has not yet been determined.
