'Haunting of Bly Manor' Creeps to No. 1 in Streaming Top 10
The Haunting of Bly Manor spooked a lot of Netflix users in its second week of release, moving to the top of Nielsen's streaming charts.
The second season of the Haunting anthology racked up 1.82 billion minutes of viewing time in the week of Oct. 12. That's up by 54 percent from the 1.18 billion minutes Netflix users spent on the show in the show's opening weekend after its Oct. 9 premiere.
Bly Manor displaced Schitt's Creek from the No. 1 spot, but the CBS/Pop TV comedy didn't really fall off in terms of viewing time. Users watched 1.37 billion minutes of the Emmy winner, down just 6 percent week to week.
The Great British Baking Show also made its first entry into the top 10, finishing fifth with 674 million minutes of viewing time. (The show's current season releases episodes weekly, a few days after their U.K. debut.) Emily in Paris' time in the top 10 proved to be short-lived, falling out after one week.
The CW's The 100 jumped up to third place overall (from eighth the previous week) with more than 900 million minutes viewed. The show's final season hit Netflix on Oct. 8.
All 10 shows in the rankings for Oct. 12-18 are from Netflix. Amazon's The Boys dropped off the top 10 after wrapping its second season; it had made the rankings in each of the previous six weeks.
Streaming platforms contend Nielsen's methodology doesn't capture the full scope of viewing on devices other than TV sets. Nielsen also only measures U.S. audiences, not those in other countries.
Nielsen's top 10 streaming programs for Oct. 12-18 are below, with the prior week's rank in parentheses. Original streaming series and films are marked with an asterisk.
