HBO Sets Landmark Princess Diana Documentary
HBO is marking the 20th anniversary of the year of Princess Diana's death by securing U.S. rights a landmark doc.
The film, produced by Oxford Film and Television for ITV in the U.K., is built around interviews with the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, both of whom talk candidly and in depth about their mother and how her influence has shaped their lives. The doc will also look at the late Princess' contribution to public life, including her philanthropic and humanitarian work in areas including child bereavement, homelessness and HIV and AIDS.
“This film will show Princess Diana in a way she has never been seen before, through the eyes of the two people who knew her best,” said executive producer Nick Kent, who will be joined producer-director Ashley Gething. In addition to the perspective of Princess Diana's sons, the documentary will feature new archival material as well as reflections from her friends and family, many of whom have never before spoken publicly.
The doc will be broadcast on HBO and ITV later this year. It will join a series of other Princess Diana projects, including a four-hour documentary airing on ABC. Among other things, these films will introduce the Princess, who died at just 36 in a car crash, to a new generation.
