Hillary Clinton Campaign Book 'Shattered' in the Works as a Limited TV Series
Two months after HBO commissioned a miniseries about President Donald Trump's surprising election, Sony Pictures Television's TriStar is poised to turn the spotlight on Hillary Clinton's stunning loss.
TriStar Television has optioned Shattered, the book by journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes about Clinton's shocking upset, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The studio is eyeing Shattered as a limited series; a network is not yet attached. Sources tell THR that TriStar is eyeing premium cable networks like HBO, Showtime and Starz as well as streaming services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.
Shattered will be produced by John Davis and John Fox's SPT-based Davis Entertainment banner. The duo's credits include NBC's The Blacklist, Fox's Behind Enemy Lines pilot and ABC's Zach Braff comedy pilot Start Up. A writer has not been hired to adapt Shattered for TV.
Sources note that while the New York Times best-seller explored how Clinton lost the race for president to former reality show host Trump, the TV version would aim to frame the story as a Greek tragedy and answer what happened that led to her defeat.
The TV version of Shattered comes two months after HBO announced it was adaptation Mark Halperin and John Heilemann's book about Trump's 2016 upset that is set to be published by Penguin Press. HBO is teaming with Jay Roach to adapt the forthcoming book, serving as a reunion for the Game Change writers with the prolific director.
It remains unclear which players from the 2016 election will be featured in the HBO mini, though it's considered a safe bet that Trump and Clinton will be at its center.
The New York Times first reported that Shattered was in the works for TV.
