Netflix is bulking up the final season cast of House of Cards following Kevin Spacey's firing.

Oscar nominees Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear have joined the cast of the streaming giant's first original series. Following a months-long shutdown after star and exec producer Spacey was fired because of sexual misconduct allegations, production on the eight-episode sixth and final season resumes Wednesday. Lane and Kinnear will play siblings on House of Cards. Additional details about their characters are being kept under wraps.

During the shutdown, Netflix and producers Media Rights Capital reworked the final season plan to revolve around Robin Wright's Claire Underwood, wife to Spacey's Frank. Writing Spacey out of House of Cards isn't a stretch. In the Michael Dobbs book that inspired the series, Frank dies.

Resuming production on House of Cards comes after the streaming giant noted in its fourth-quarter earnings report that it lost $39 million on an "unexpected" charge for "unreleased content we've decided not to move forward with," including a planned Gore Vidal biopic that was to star Spacey.

Joining Wright, Lane and Kinnear in the final season of House of Cards are co-stars Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver. (Neve Campbell is not returning.) Exec producers on the final season are Melissa James Gibson, Frank Pugliese, Wright, David Fincher?, Joshua Donen?, Dana Brunetti?, Eric Roth?, Michael Dobbs? and Andrew Davies?.

House of Cards will be Lane's first series-regular gig on TV. Her credits include Unfaithful, Under the Tuscan Sun, Hollywoodland, Trumbo and A Walk on the Moon. She earned an Emmy nomination for her role in the CBS miniseries Lonesome Dove. She's also guest-starring in Matt Weiner's upcoming Amazon anthology The Romanoffs. She's repped by UTA and Weintraub Tobin.

Kinnear, meanwhile, counts As Good as It Gets, Little Miss Sunshine, You've Got Mail and the upcoming Brian Banks, The Red Sea Diving Resort and Strange but True among his credits. On TV, his credits include Amazon drama Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams and HBO's Confirmation. He's with WME and attorney Rick Genow.

A premiere date for the final season of House of Cards has not yet been determined.
