'How I Met Your Mother' Bringing Back Michael Trucco in Season 8

After plans for a recurring role last year were sidelined by the actor's obligations to "Fairly Legal," the CBS comedy plans for him to return as a love interest for Cobie Smulders' Robin.

Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) has not seen the last of her "crush."

After the briefest of cameos in season six, with a promise for more, Michael Trucco will finally reprise his role as the unnamed object of her affection in the series upcoming eighth run.

A 20th Century Fox rep confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that Trucco has signed on for multiple episodes as a new love interest for Robin, as first reported by TVLine.

Showrunners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas had planned to bring back Trucco in the seventh season, but his obligations to USA series Fairly Legal kept the story from coming to fruition. That romantic arc ended up going to Kal Penn.

And like that one, Trucco's clearly won't last forever. The recent season seven finale revealed that Robin will ultimately make her way down the aisle with Barney (Neil Patrick Harris).

How I Met Your Mother returns to CBS on Sept. 24.
