Howard Gordon Reteaming With '24' EP for Fox Legal Drama

Gordon, a New York-born writer, producer and novelist, was the ideal fit to adapt Homeland given his lengthy stint as showrunner on post-9/11 drama 24 and his passion for global politics. Now, with expectations sky high and rival networks feverishly developing copycats, the proverbial ante has been upped, a point that isn’t lost on Gansa and Gordon. “The higher you are propped up, the further you have to fall, so you have to detach as best you can,” says Gordon.

Howard Gordon is expanding his relationship with Fox and 24 executive producer Evan Katz.

The former 24 showrunner is reteaming with Katz for Trial of the Century, a legal thriller that has landed at Fox with a script plus penalty commitment.

Trial of the Century, like 24, will be heavily serialized. The legal thriller is told from the point of view of a young Latina attorney who is working on a unique high-profile case.

Katz will pen the script and executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television drama alongside Gordon via his studio-based Teakwood Lane production company. Richard Shepard (Ringer, Golden Boy) is attached to direct the project, should it move forward to pilot, via his Ole banner, which will also exec produce. Bryan and Sean Furst (The Cooler, Daybreakers) are also on board as EPs.

The drama reunites Katz and Gordon, who in addition to Fox's flagship 24 are also prepping next year's 24: Live Another Day event series for the network.

Gordon and Katz are repped by WME, 3 Arts and Michael Gendler; Shepard is with WME, Anonymous Content and Jackoway Tyerman; Bryan and Sean Furst are with WME and Frankfurt Kurnit.

Trial of the Century marks Gordon's latest sale this development season. The Homeland executive producer is also teaming with Drive's Ben Queen for an adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book Unthinkable, which is also set up at Fox. Additionally, Gordon has pilot Tyrant in the works and TNT's upcoming Sean Bean drama series Legends.
