Hulu, A+E Studios Teaming for Afghanistan War Drama 'One Million Steps' (Exclusive)

The streaming service and studio are developing a TV take on the book of the same name by former Assistant Secretary of Defense Bing West.

Hulu is enlisting in TV's military.

The streaming service is teaming with A+E Studios to develop war drama One Million Steps, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on the book One Million Steps: A Marine Platoon at War by Bing West, former assistant secretary of defense and marine combat veteran, the drama explores the story of one distinguished platoon in the United States Marine Corps., infantry Battalion 3/5, which lost 50 percent of the platoon in the war in Afghanistan over a relentless seven-month odyssey.

Robert Munic (Ice) will pen the script for the drama, which should it move to pilot; Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) will direct. The duo exec produce alongside Braden Aftergood (Hell or High Water). The project takes its title from the 1 million steps that each marine in the 3rd Platoon patrolled — two and a half miles — per day for six months in search of an enemy that struck without warning.

One Million Steps becomes the latest military-themed drama in the works as broadcast networks, streaming services and cable networks alike look to appeal to an underserved part of the country and appeal to Trump America.  It joins History's already renewed drama Six (also from A+E Studios); USA Network's Shooter (also picked up for season two) as well as four broadcast pilots: The CW's Valor; Fox's Behind Enemy Lines reboot; NBC's For God and Country; and CBS' untitled Navy SEALs drama. Other similarly themed projects in the works include Harlem Hellfighers, a miniseries in development from A+E Studios about the U.S. Army's 369th infantry division, an African-American unit fighting in Europe during World War I.

One Million Steps is the second project in development at Hulu for A+E Studios. It joins following global conspiracy thriller Obicera One from Carlton Cuse and Lindsey Springer.

Munic is repped by Verve, Gotham Group and Myman Greenspan; West is with Verve; Aftergood is repped by Verve and Gang Tyre; Waugh is with UTA and Bloom Hergott.
