ViacomCBS' streaming platform Paramount+ is reviving iCarly for a grown-up reboot.

The streamer, which is set to launch early next year, has given a series order to the show, which will feature original stars Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress. The Simpsons veteran Jay Kogen and Ali Schouten (Netflix's Merry Happy Whatever) will develop the show. Nickelodeon Studios is producing.

iCarly ran from 2007 to 2012 on Nickelodeon and was a breakout hit for the kid-focused channel. The series was known for incorporating a host of pop culture references — ranging from its Nick contemporaries to The Wire — into its story about a middle schooler (Cosgrove) who hosts a webcast and her friends.

The revival of iCarly comes as ViacomCBS is gearing up for the launch of Paramount+ in early 2021. The company will rebrand its CBS All Access streaming service and is in the process of adding content from across ViacomCBS' suite of brands, including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV and the soon-to-be rebranded Paramount Movie Network.

On Wednesday, CBS All Access added 800 episodes of popular Nickelodeon series including Paw Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines and Dora the Explorer as well as a "Kids Mode" that allows parents and caregivers to limit content children can see based on program ratings.

The addition of more kids' programming (and grown-up versions of former kids' programming, as with iCarly) is part of ViacomCBS' strategy to broaden the scope of CBS All Access ahead of the rebranding and positioning Paramount+ as a competitor to Netflix, Disney+ and other big streamers.

"We've already seen incredible growth in viewership since we began expanding our offering of children’s programming on the service," said Rob Gelick, executive vp and GM streaming services and chief product officer at ViacomCBS Streaming. "With today's new product enhancements, like 'Kids Mode' and multiple profiles, we can create customized experiences for each member of the household while giving our subscribers even more opportunities to discover and watch family programming together."

iCarly joins a slate of originals at Paramount+ that also includes The Offer, about the making of The Godfather; Coyote, starring Michael Chiklis (originally developed for Paramount Network); and current CBS All Access series including The Good Fight, the Star Trek franchise and The Twilight Zone, among others. Paramount+ will also be home to SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff Kamp Koral and the latest movie in the franchise.
