Idina Menzel on 'Frozen' Sequel: "I Have No Idea"

Elsa's hair

Even though Disney's animators had wrestled with braids for 2011's Tangled, the hair for Elsa was vastly more complicated: While Rapunzel carried 27,000 extralong strands on her head, the Frozen team found themselves dealing with upward of 400,000 CG threads -- a feat that required the invention of a new program, called Tonic, to execute.

Idina Menzel has more words about that supposed Frozen sequel.

Following a Telegraph interview that quoted her saying that a second onscreen installment is "in the works … hopefully" and therefore set the Internet ablaze, the Broadway star who voiced Elsa in the animated film addressed the rumors head-on when she stopped by Today on Monday morning.

When asked about the sequel before performing a song off her Christmas album, Holiday Wishes, Menzel simply said with a laugh, "You know, I have no idea — I just assumed that because it's so successful that's what they're up to!"

In February, Walt Disney Animation Studios executive vp and GM Andrew Millstein told The Hollywood Reporter that "there's not a sequel [currently] on the drawing boards," and Disney chairman Alan Horn echoed that in comments to reporters in April.

Released last November, Frozen has grossed $1.27 billion worldwide and took home the Oscars for best animated feature and best original song for "Let It Go."
