Iggy Azalea Inks TV Deal With Universal Cable Productions, Wilshire Studios
Australian rapper, songwriter and model Iggy Azalea is adding TV producer to her résumé.
Azalea has signed a first-look overall deal with Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Under the pact, she will collaborate with both studios to create content millennial-focused programming that focuses on topics ranging from social justice and tolerance to empowering young women.
''Creating television that is reflective of my generation has always been an aspiration of mine,” Azalea said Tuesday in a statement. “I am incredibly excited to start working on my ideas and am humbled that Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios have given me this once-in-a-life time opportunity.''
Azalea currently is serving as a judge for The X Factor Australia and has directed several of her own music videos. Her 2014 debut release The New Classic spawned the hit single "Fancy," making her the first non-American female rapper to reach the top of the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
“Iggy is a strong, passionate voice for her generation and has incredible creative instincts in all aspects of media,” said Dawn Olmstead, exec vp development at UCP and Wilshire Studios. “We already have projects in both the scripted and non-scripted areas. We are very excited to have her join forces with us."
Azalea's producing partner, Patrick Hughes of Primary Wave Entertainment, put the deal together.
