On broadcast …

ABC is serving up a twist on the deserted-island show with Castaways, which will follow 12 people who are each stranded alone on a series of South Pacific islands. The only way off is to wait for rescue or quit — but there's also the tantalizing possibility they'll make contact with the others. The series will also show the lives that the contestants left behind.

Premieres: Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 10 p.m. ET/PT

On cable …

Several high-profile cable shows — Better Call Saul, Ballers (heads up, Sen. Warren) and Insecure, among them — kick off new seasons this week, but save a spot for AMC's oddball Lodge 49, starring Wyatt Russell as an ex-surfer at loose ends who finds an unlikely community in a fraternal lodge in Long Beach. Sonya Cassidy and Brent Jennings also star.

Premieres: Monday, Aug. 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT

On streaming …

Originally developed for The CW, Insatiable tells the story of a bullied teenager, Patty (Disney Channel grad Debby Ryan), who's out for revenge and enlists a lawyer turned pageant coach (Dallas Roberts) to help her get it. The Netflix show has generated controversy over a perception of fat-shaming in the trailer, but creator Lauren Gussis insists there's much more to the tale.

Premieres: Friday, Aug. 10.

The seventh season of Adult Swim's Venture Bros., the beloved and twisted sendup of 1960s-era adventure cartoons like Jonny Quest, premieres Sunday, Aug. 5. New episodes air Sundays at midnight, and you can catch up via the Adult Swim app or on Hulu.
