Investigation Discovery Gives Firsthand Look at Policework in New Series 'Body Cam' (Exclusive)

True crime and justice network Investigation Discovery is giving viewers a firsthand look at policework in a new series, Body Cam, set to debut Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Body Cam takes a look at the day to day activities of policemen throughout the country. Through the use of real body camera footage, Body Cam provides insight into the various dangerous situations that policemen must wade their way through, and how quickly a seemingly innocuous situation can escalate into a crisis. An average day can include anything from a domestic dispute that turns into a hostage crisis to a full-on shootout with an armed fugitive. The network calls the show "the ultimate ride-along" for those who are curious about the dangers of policework.

"Body cameras are meant to provide accountability and, while such footage oftentimes faces public scrutiny, we hope that this series will shed some further light on the dangers that officers regularly face in their daily effort to keep us safe," says Henry Schleiff, group president of Investigation Discovery, Travel Channel, American Heroes Channel and Destination America. "Indeed, by showing actual footage of these harrowing encounters, Body Cam not only offers an intimate and intense look at law enforcement, but also provides the viewer with a visceral sense of what life is like for those who must, on occasion, risk their lives to protect ours."

Each installment tells multiple stories and includes body camera and dashcam footage, dispatch and radio transmissions with additional officers on scene and interviews with responding officers who provide context to their decisions and an understanding of the aftershocks of the drama. The show also features emotional interviews with those who lived through the events.

The premiere episode focuses on a domestic dispute call that turns into a violent shootout, leaving an officer fighting for his life, and another incident in which a rookie is forced to pull his weapon on a busy highway when a pedestrian unexpectedly pulls a knife.

Additional stories will include: a domestic dispute that escalates into an armed siege as a mother narrowly escapes with a gunshot wound that leaves her children hostage inside the house with the shooter; a brutal crime that is caught on camera, sparking a manhunt for a vicious killer; the serving of an arrest warrant to a sex offender that turns deadly; sheriff's deputies battling a deadly fire, which quickly turns into a murder investigation; and an armed man on the loose vowing that he'd rather die than go back to jail, murdering two officers in the process.

The 10-part series is produced for Investigation Discovery by Arrow Media under the guidance of executive producer Nick Metcalfe. Senior executive producer Thomas Cutler, senior vp production Sara Kozak and Schleiff represent for Investigation Discovery.
