Despite terrible reviews, Netflix has renewed Iron Fist for a second season.

The announcement was made Friday at Comic-Con, where Marvel Television and Netflix are presenting a panel for upcoming miniseries The Defenders. Marvel head of television Jeph Loeb also used the Comic-Con stage to reveal that Simone Missick's Luke Cage character, Misty Knight, will make her way to Iron Fist's sophomore run.

Iron Fist launched to controversy after Netflix and Marvel cast Game of Thrones' Finn Jones as the lead. The source material has been accused of appropriating Asian culture, and a massive movement called for Netflix and Marvel to remedy that by casting an Asian-American in the lead. Critics universally lambasted the drama's pacing, cast and authenticity.

The Hollywood Reporter's Daniel Fienberg wrote that the series "feels like a step backward on every level, a major disappointment that already suffers from storytelling issues through the first six episodes made available to critics and would probably be mercifully skippable in its entirety if it weren't the bridge into the long-awaited Defenders crossover series."
Closer to the show's premiere, Jones got into hot water on Twitter in his attempt to defend his casting in the show. The actor ultimately deleted his account (though he has since returned).
Iron First was the fourth of five Marvel dramas that Netflix picked up in a massive deal with the comic book powerhouse. Four of the five — including Iron Fist predecessors Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage — have been renewed. The fifth is The Defenders, the forthcoming miniseries mashup featuring all four characters.
The Iron Fist renewal continues Marvel's TV hot streak. The company also has Fox's upcoming X-Men take The Gifted, as well as ABC/Imax's Inhumans, launching in the fall (with Agents of SHIELD coming midseason). On the streaming side, the company has Runaways at Hulu, while on cable, Freeform has New Warriors and Cloak & Dagger, and FX has Legion, which will return in 2018 with its second season.
