CBS has found its leading lady for summer drama Salvation.

Jennifer Finnigan has landed the female lead in the series from executive producers Peter Lenkov and Alex Kurtzman, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Described as a suspense thriller, Salvation centers on an MIT grad student and a tech superstar (uncast) who bring a low-level Pentagon official a staggering discovery — that an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth.

Finnigan will star as Grace Darrow, the Pentagon press secretary and a single mom who deftly navigates the complicated waters of both jobs. Her world is turned upside down when she learns a deadly asteroid is heading toward Earth. Brought into the government's secret task force to save humanity, Grace struggles to keep the secret from the ones she loves and finds herself tested in ways she never imagined.

Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro (Extant) penned the script and will exec produce and serve as showrunners. Matt Wheeler came up with the story. Fellow exec producers include Kurtzman, Lenkov and Heather Kadin.

Finnigan joins a cast that includes Jacqueline Byers and Charlie Rowe. Her credits include Tyrant, Monday Mornings, Better With You, Close to Home, Crossing Jordan and The Bold and the Beautiful. She is repped by ICM Partners and John Carrabino Management.

Salvation will debut in the summer alongside returning drama Zoo. A formal premiere date has not yet been determined.
