Jon Stewart Mocks Media Reaction to Rachel Dolezal: "A German Lady Got a Weave"

"Czech, Swedish and German is really f—ing white," Stewart said of Dolezal's ancestral background.

Jon Stewart is thoroughly confused by Rachel Dolezal

Monday's Daily Show featured a segment called "Whaaaaaaaat?!" in which the host took aim at the NAACP chapter president from Spokane, Washington, who has resigned amid accusations that she is a white woman pretending to be black.

"That's crazy — there's an NAACP chapter in Spokane?" Stewart joked.

He then questioned why Dolezal would identify as black, given that her ancestors are Czech, Swedish and German.

"Czech, Swedish and German is really f—ing white," Stewart said. "Even [the pale character from the film] Powder is like, 'That's one white lady.' "

Stewart also took members of the media to task for suggesting that one white woman wanting to represent herself as black means racism no longer exists.

"You might also ask, if being black is such a sweet deal, why are millions of white people ignoring this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?" Stewart asked.

"Racism is over...all because a German lady got a weave," he said sarcastically, adding: "I can't think of another instance of this — it mostly just happens in movies." Stewart then showed stills of Robert Downey Jr.'s character in Tropic Thunder and C. Thomas Howell in the 1986 comedy Soul Man.
