Jon Stewart is not letting Rupert Murdoch off easy for his recent tweet about Muslims

On Monday's Daily Show, Stewart mocked the media mogul for tweeting last week that Muslims "must be held responsible" for the Paris terror attack on satire magazine Charlie Hebdo. Murdoch wrote that the blame should fall on all Muslims "until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer."

Stewart began the segment by referring to Murdoch as "his excellency from the republic of Media Conglomistad," saying: "He has spoke-tweeted."

"Moderate Muslims, until you have completely wiped Islamic extremists from this earth, this shit's on you," Stewart said, adopting Murdoch's apparent point of view.

The host said Murdoch believes everyone in a group should be responsible for illegal activity by the other members of that group, "except if the criminal acts are newspapers hacking dead people's phones, and if the head of that newspaper company is [Murdoch himself]." This is a reference to the hacking scandal that was primarily centered on Murdoch's now-defunct News of the World.

Stewart is not the first public figure to slam Murdoch for the tweet. Aziz Ansari tweeted that Murdoch was a "racist piece of shit," while J.K. Rowling wrote, "I was born Christian. If that makes Rupert Murdoch my responsibility, I'll auto-excommunicate."
