Josh Duhamel, Jimmi Simpson, Bokeem Woodbine to Star in USA's Tupac Drama 'Unsolved'
USA Network has landed three in-demand leading men for its Tupac murder drama pilot Unsolved.
Set to star in the pilot are Josh Duhamel (11.22.63), Westworld breakout Jimmi Simpson and Fargo favorite Bokeem Woodbine, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. All three actors had been receiving multiple offers for broadcast dramas this pilot season.
Unsolved is a true-crime serialized drama that chronicles the two major police investigations into the slayings of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. The drama hails from People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story Emmy winner Anthony Hemmingway.
Duhamel will star as Detective Greg Kading. In 2006, Kading was asked to help spearhead a multi-agency task force with the purpose of finding out who was responsible for Christopher Wallace's (aka Biggie Smalls) slaying. The casting marks Duhamel's return to television following Hulu's 11.22.63, CBS' Battle Creek and NBC's Las Vegas. His feature credits include Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Safe Haven and New Year's Eve.
Simpson will portray Detective Russell Poole. In 1997, Poole investigated the slaying of Biggie Smalls and became convinced that the LAPD was covering something up. His findings eventually led Voletta Wallace to file a lawsuit against the department. Simpson's credits include Westworld, Hap and Leonard, The Newsroom and Psych.
Woodbine, meanwhile, is set to play Officer Daryn Dupree. In 2006, Dupree became a key member of the task force — one with a deep knowledge of L.A. gangs and the rap industry. Woodbine's credits include his Emmy-nominated role in Fargo as well as features Ray, Life and Riddick. He'll next be seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
From Universal Cable Productions, Unsolved will be directed by Hemmingway, who exec produces alongside Mark Taylor through their Hemingway | Taylor production company. Kyle Long (Suits) will pen the script and exec produce.
The drama is based on the experiences of former LAPD Detective Greg Kading, who is consulting on the pilot script and will also serve as co-executive producer. Kading led multiple law-enforcement task forces investigating the murders and authored the book Murder Rap: The Untold Story of Biggie Smalls & Tupac Shakur Murder Investigations.
Duhamel is repped by ICM Partners, John Carrabino Management and Viewpoint. Simpson is repped by WME and Industry Entertainment. Woodbine is repped by Gersh and Jackoway Tyerman.
