Justin Long will star in Fox's comedy Sober Companion, playing the highly unconventional title character.

STORY: TV Pilots 2014: The Complete Guide

Justin Long is ready to get his game on for ABC.

The busy actor has booked the leading role in the network's soccer comedy pilot Dream Team, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The project revolves around Marty Schumacher, who coached his last club soccer team for 10 years, ultimately taking them to the national championships. He now has to start from scratch with a diverse group of 8-year-olds and their disparate parents.

Long will star as Marty, who is the eternally optimistic manager of a sporting goods store and also the "damn good" head coach of a nationally ranked soccer program — the one true love in his life. Currently recruiting young girls for his dream team, Marty is looking to re-create his amazing rise to the national championship of two years ago.

Will & Grace alums Kari Lizer and Bill Wrubel will pen the script for Warner Bros. Television and executive produce alongside Marc Buckland, who will direct the pilot.

Long joins a cast that also includes Michael Mosley (Sirens), Lindsey Kraft (Getting On) and Michelle Buteau (Key & Peele), who all play parents of potential players.

For Long, Dream Team marks his latest TV pilot. He previously starred in ABC's Irreversible last season and before that had Fox's Sober Companion. His credits include Netflix animated series F Is for Family and Ed as well as guest roles on New Girl and Mom. Long is repped by Gersh.
