Three months after The Mick's cancellation, Kaitlin Olson is returning to Fox.

The actress has been tapped to star opposite Leah Remini in the network's untitled comedy pilot from the team behind It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Rob Riggle has also joined the cast.

Picked up with an off-cycle pilot order in May, the multicamera comedy from 20th Century Fox Television revolves around Jean (Remini), who considers herself a patriot who loves her country and firmly believes in everyone's right to be left alone. Jean in many ways fits the stereotype of a typical conservative. However, she leads a very progressive lifestyle, as she is now married to a woman, Birdie (Olson). Together they're raising Jean's two boys with the help of the boys' father and Jean's ex-husband, Richie (Riggle), who currently lives in the garage.

The pilot marks the latest TV foray for Olson with her husband, Rob McElhenney, and the rest of the It's Always Sunny gang. McElhenney and Rob Rosell will pen the script and executive produce the comedy alongside It's Always Sunny collaborators Nick Frenkel, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton. (While Day, Howerton and McElhenney star in Sunny — and Howerton toplines NBC's second-year comedy A.P. Bio — none is expected to have onscreen roles in the project.) The effort is in contention for a midseason — or beyond — order at Fox, which continues to develop off-cycle as broadcast networks look to year-round development.

Olson's casting comes after Fox sent shockwaves through the industry with its decision to clean house on the comedy front. The network, which is in the midst of becoming "New Fox" with a focus on procedural and multicamera fare in the wake of its studio counterpart's sale as part of the Disney deal, does not have a single live-action comedy returning for a second season after axing The Mick, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Ghosted, L.A. to Vegas and Last Man on Earth.

Comedy veteran Riggle's credits include a long stint as a Daily Show correspondent and roles in Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, Modern Family and Angie Tribeca, to name a few.

Olson is repped by UTA. Riggle is repped by WME, Artists First and Sloane Offer.
