Kevin Bacon is plotting his return to television.

The Following alum is in final negotiations to star in Amazon's Jill Soloway comedy pilot I Love Dick, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Directed by Soloway (Transparent) and written by playwright Sarah Gubbins, I Love Dick is based on Chris Kraus' 1997 novel. The comedy centers on a struggling married couple, Chris (Kathryn Hahn) and Sylvere (Griffin Dunne), in a colorful academic community in Marfa, Texas, and their mutual obsession with an off-putting but charismatic professor, Dick. Told in Rashomon-style point-of-view shifts, I Love Dick charts the unraveling of a marriage, the awakening of an artist and the reluctant deification of a man named Dick.

Bacon will star as Dick, the professor who is described as a "sexy silver fox" and "cowboy intellectual."

I Love Dick is produced by Soloway and Andrea Sperling's Topple Productions and is produced in-house via their overall deal with Amazon Studios. Soloway and Sperling will executive produce, with Gubbins on board as a co-exec producer.

I Love Dick marks Bacon's latest small-screen role following his three-season turn on Fox's The Following. He's also attached to star in a Tremors reboot from Universal Cable Productions (though a network is not yet attached). On the film side, his recent roles include The Darkness and Black Mass plus roles in Apollo 13, Footloose and Mystic River. Bacon is repped by WME, MGMT Entertainment and Gaines Solomon.
