Kevin Hart Inks First-Look Deal With Nickelodeon

The actor-comedian will develop live-action scripted projects for the kids network through his HartBeat Productions banner.

Kevin Hart and his production banner HartBeat Productions have inked a first-look deal with Nickelodeon.

The actor-comedian will develop and produce live-action, scripted kids' content for the network through HartBeat. The company, which develops projects for film, TV and for digital platforms, focuses on content hailing from culturally diverse storytellers that appeals to global audiences.

Nickelodeon says that the actor-comedian is "hugely popular" among its viewers. Indeed, Hart has been nominated for mulitple Kids' Choice Awards, winning several of the kid-voted Orange Blimp statuettes, including in 2014, when he was named favorite funny star, and in 2017, when he won favorite villain and most wanted pet for The Secret Life of Pets and favorite BFFs along with Central Intelligence co-star Dwayne Johnson.

News of the deal comes just days after Viacom named Brian Robbins as president of Nickelodeon after serving as president of Paramount Pictures’ Paramount Players division.

"I'm excited to inherit this terrific content deal with Kevin Hart just as I step into my new role at Nickelodeon," Robbins said Thursday in a statement. "Kevin is an incredible talent whose appeal cuts across practically every age group and every member of the family. He knows how to create unforgettable characters, and I can’t wait for him and HartBeat Productions to focus their creativity on making great new content with us."

Said Hart: "For me, Nick has always represented everything fun about being a kid, and it's still at the forefront today of kids' and family entertainment. I've been slimed at Kids' Choice, won a lot of Orange Blimps, and my kids are my very own built-in focus group, so I'm ready to dive in and make some next-level shows with Brian and everyone at Nickelodeon."

HartBeat currently has a first-look deal with Universal Studios to produce feature films. Their first production together, Night School, boasted the highest-grossing opening weekend for a comedy this year. The movie, which stars Hart and Tiffany Haddish, bowed Sept. 28 with $27.3 million at the domestic box office and has grossed $62.1 million worldwide so far.

Other HartBeat projects include The Next Level and Hart of the City on Comedy Central and Cold as Balls and What the Fit on LOL Network.

Meanwhile, Hart is set to star in sequels to Secret Life of Pets and Jumanji, plus a third installment of Ride Along.
