Jim Carrey's 'Kidding' Renewed for Season 2 at Showtime

The comedy has been pulling 2.3 million viewers across platforms.

Jim Carrey is staying put at Showtime.

The cable network announced Wednesday that his freshman comedy, Kidding, has been renewed for a second season.

The series, which doubles as the actor and comedian's return to TV after a nearly three-decade absence, premiered in September to a strong critical reception and is thus far grossing 2.3 million weekly viewers across the network's various linear and digital platforms.

"Kidding has established itself as one of the most endearing and inventive shows on television," said Showtime Networks programming resident Gary Levine. "I feel like I have been watching Mr. Pickles my whole life, and I look forward to being entranced by his unique blend of hilarity and heartbreak in season two."

The "Pickles" Levine speaks of is the Fred Rogers-esque character Carrey portrays on the comedy, which focuses on a children's programming star who has to weather the implosion of his family. In addition to Carrey, the series stars Frank Langella, Catherine Keener, Judy Greer, Cole Allen and Juliet Morris.

Created and showrun by Dave Holstein, Kidding is executive produced by Carrey and director Michel Gondry. It is technically Carrey's second series at Showtime, as he also produced the recently canceled I'm Dying Up Here. The second-season order is also for 10 episodes.

Kidding continues its first season through its Nov. 11 finale.
