'Late Night With Seth Meyers' Goes Long for Mueller Report
NBC's Late Night With Seth Meyers will expand Thursday to go in-depth on the release of the Mueller report — and Game of Thrones.
With the release of special counsel Robert Mueller's report on 2016 election meddling by Russia, and the Trump campaign's connection to it, set for Thursday morning, Late Night will expand to 90 minutes that night. The show is planning a "Closer Look" segment dedicated to analyzing the report's findings.
Thursday is also the day Meyers and Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones talk about the latest Game of Thrones when the HBO show is on. "A Closer Look" and "Game of Jones" tend to run about 10 minutes each, so doing a regular-length show likely would have required cutting one or the other.
"I simply will not stand for the Mueller report bumping Leslie Jones or vice versa, so we decided to make room for both," Meyers said Monday.
Late Night's scheduled guests Thursday are Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, Amy Sedaris and Toro Y Moi.
Late Night has adapted to political events before, airing live shows the night of the 2018 midterm elections and after February's State of the Union address. The show also aired live several times during the 2016 campaign.
