Lewis Black Joins ABC's Bernie Madoff Drama (Exclusive)

Lewis Black is trying his hand at the dramatic.

The comedian has joined ABC's new miniseries Madoff, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Inspired by ABC News' chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross' book The Madoff Chronicles: Inside the Secret World of Bernie and Ruth, the drama will chronicle the rise and fall of Bernie Madoff. The former stockbroker and financier was convicted of fraud in 2009 in a Ponzi scheme that is considered to be the largest financial fraud in U.S. history.

Black will portray Ezra Merkin, who, after investing with Madoff and receiving great returns, brought many famous and well-to-do Jewish clients, including Elie Weisel and The Hadassah Organization, to Bernie’s fold.

Black joins a cast that includes Richard Dreyfuss, Blythe Danner, Frank WhaleyErin Cummings and Tom Lipinski.

Raymond De Felitta (City Island) will direct the multi-episode drama, which is being written by Ben Robbins (The First 48). Linda Berman (Heat Wave, The Assets) and Joe Pichirallo (Hollywoodland) are on board to executive produce for ABC. The drama is currently in production; an exact episode count has not yet been revealed.

Black is known for his regular appearances on The Daily Show. Other TV credits include four Comedy Central specials and two HBO comedy specials. A two-time Grammy winner for best comedy album, he has also penned three best-selling books.

Black next voices Anger in Pixar's highly anticipated animated film Inside Out. He is repped by APA and Del Shaw.
