Lionsgate TV Inks Overall Deal With 'The Soup' Alum K.P. Anderson
Lionsgate Television is locking down K.P. Anderson, the man who was behind E!'s The Soup.
The production company has signed an overall deal with the comic writer-producer also known for his work on The Wayne Brady Show and Politically Incorrect. Under the new pact, he'll create new original series and formats through his Pygmy Wolf Productions banner and Lionsgate will have exclusive rights to the alternative and scripted TV content he produces.
This agreement further underscores Lionsgate’s commitment to the unscripted space, which recently bought a major stake in Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Studios. Other unscripted series in the company's portfolio include Monica the Medium on Freeform, RocketJump: The Show on Hulu, Christina Milian Turned Up on E! and Hellevator on GSN, along with the upcoming Douglas Family Gold on Oxygen and Kicking & Screaming on Fox.
For the past 11 years, Anderson served as the executive producer and head writer of The Soup, which starred Joel McHale. During that time, he also developed and executive produced other series including BBC America’s The Nerdist, Nickelodeon’s You Gotta See This, Style Network’s The Dish, G4’s Web Soup and Versus’ Sports Soup. Through his Pygmy Wolf shingle, Anderson additionally developed and executive produced E!’s The Comment Section and The Soup Investigates.
“After watching K.P. Anderson help deliver countless clever laughs for over a decade on The Soup, we are delighted to have him join the fold here as we continue to expand Lionsgate Television’s commitment to creating unique comedy series,” said Jennifer O’Connell, executive vp alternative programming at Lionsgate TV. “Networks are hungry for someone to crack new comedy formats, and with his talent, versatility, and strong relationships, K.P. is one of the best at breaking new ground.”
Added Chris Selak, executive vp television at Lionsgate TV: “From his stand-up comedy to his work as an executive producer, K.P. Anderson has developed a finely tuned sense of what’s funny, topical and imminently watchable, so I’m excited to see him bring his of-the-moment sensibility to scripted television. K.P. adds to our growing stable of scripted and unscripted talent, further diversifying Lionsgate’s slate of programming.”
Said Anderson: “I couldn’t be more excited to bring myself and Pygmy Wolf to Lionsgate. Kevin Beggs, Sandra Stern, Jen O’Connell and Chris Selak are the best quadrumvirate of incredibly smart, driven and truly decent people to work with as I start this next chapter of my career creating and developing comedy across network, cable and OTT platforms. Also, they caved to my contractual demand of having an unflattering iPad picture taken of me before I enter their building for every meeting, which was a pretty sweet victory for me.”
Anderson is repped by The Gersh Agency, 3 Arts Entertainment and Chad Christopher and Hannah Mulderink at Stone, Meyer, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher.
