The guessing game for Regis Philbin’s replacement on Live! With Kelly has everyone dropping names. The veteran co-host recently squashed any speculation that current guest co-host Neil Patrick Harris will keep Philbin’s cushion warm in the long term.

"Neil Patrick Harris always does a great job -- but he's got an enormous hit,” Philbin tells Extra. “They've got to find someone who has the time right now to do that. Neil was great and he will probably pinch hit, I'm sure. They have to keep looking around until they find someone that really appeals to Kelly... and then they'll go for it."

While the How I Met Your Mother star is currently booked to appear alongside Kelly Ripa through this week, there’s no shortage of names floating around to fill the seat permanently. The media has suggested a wide range of candidates since Philbin announced his departure, including Ripa’s husband, actor Mark Consuelos, Bravo’s Andy Cohen, actor Jerry O'Connell, 20/20’s Chris Cuomo, and American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest.

But, if it was up to Philbin? "Everybody asks me that. Listen to this -- George Clooney!" he jokes.

Philbin has always maintained that his TV career isn't over. The actor has already shot a reality show pilot and he's currently looking at a possible primetime family talent show.
