Freeform is looking to The Lonely Island for its next comedy.

The former ABC Family on Tuesday announced that it has greenlighted comedy Alone Together to pilot.

The half-hour project centers on two overlooked millennial misfits from different backgrounds as they try to make their way into the vain and status-obsessed culture of Los Angeles — only to find salvation in their male/female strictly platonic friendship. Esther Povitsky (Lady Dynamite, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and Benji Afalo (Not Safe With Nikki Glaser) will star in, write and executive produce the pilot. Eben Russell also will write and executive produce.

The comedy, executive produced by The Lonely Island's Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, was first put in development in April as part of Freeform's massive upfront development slate.

Alone Together comes as Freeform has shifted its focus to "becomers," a younger audience that the Disney-owned cable network has said focuses on firsts like love and jobs. The pilot joins the recently announced pilot Issues and scripted pickups Cloak and Dagger (from Marvel) and Famous in Love, starring Bella Thorne and produced by Pretty Little Liars boss I. Marlene King.
