Aimee Garcia has a fiery new gig.

The Dexter actress has joined Fox's Lucifer as a series regular for season two, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Garcia will play Ella Lopez, the police department’s new forensic scientist. A bit of a walking contradiction, Ella is described as brainy but spiritual, warm but tough. She grew up in a pretty rough neighborhood in Detroit, but also in a strong Catholic family, under the watchful and protective eye of her five brothers … which might explain some of her opposing personality traits. It also explains why she’s always felt comfortable in the tough, male-dominated world of law enforcement. Her mutual belief in both faith and science proves a point of interest to Lucifer (Tom Ellis), and the rest of the department, as they get to know and love her quirky ways.

Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D. B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez and Kevin Rankin also star. Garcia joins fellow new addition Tricia Helfer, who recently signed on to play the devil's mother.

A midseason entry, Lucifer was a strong performer on Mondays and earned a season-two renewal back in April. Based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, the series hails from Warner Bros. TV and Jerry Bruckheimer TV. Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Ildy Modrovich, Joe Henderson and Len Wiseman executive produce.

For Garcia, the gig comes after her role on CBS' one-and-done remake of Rush Hour, which was canceled in May. Her other credits include Vegas and RoboCop. She is repped by Paradigm, Atlas Artists and Ginsburg Daniels.

Lucifer's second season premieres Monday, Sept. 19, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
