'Mad Men' Alum Boards Starz's LeBron James Comedy (Exclusive)
Starz's upcoming LeBron James comedy has enlisted the services of a Mad Men alum.
Teyonah Parris, who played Don Draper's secretary on AMC's Mad Men, has boarded the premium cable network's scripted comedy Survivor's Remorse.
The series hails from exec producers James, Tom Werner, Mike O'Malley, Maverick Carter and Paul Wachter. O'Malley, also a writer on Showtime's Shameless and an Emmy nominee for his role on Glee, will pen the project. The comedy, which was first announced in September, is being fast-tracked and will premiere in the fall on Starz.
STORY: LeBron James Comedy Gets Series Order at Starz
Survivor's Remorse is set in the world of professional basketball and explores the comedy and drama of an experience that everyone reads about, but few understand -- what truly happens when you make it out. The story follows Cam Calloway, a basketball phenom in his early 20s who is suddenly thrust into the limelight after signing a multimillion-dollar contract with a professional basketball team in Atlanta. Cam, along with his cousin and confidant Reggie Vaughn (RonReaco Lee), move to Georgia to start Cam's journey to success.
Parris will portray Missy, Reggie's wife, Missy. She's the kind of gorgeous, put-together woman who commands immediate attention. The character is Penn-educated, wealthy, suspicious and has never lost an argument. She doesn't shrink in Reggie's presence and is his equal in every way and he knows it.
Parris, repped by APA and Vanguard Management, can also be seen in the upcoming films They Came Together with Amy Poehler and Dear White People, both which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Her credits include How do You Know and The Good Wife.
Survivor's Remorse will film Atlanta and debut its six-episode first season in the fall.
