'Major Crimes' Renewed for Sixth Season at TNT
Ahead of its season-five return, TNT has given an early renewal to stalwart Major Crimes.
The Turner-owned cable network has picked up the Mary McDonnell drama for a sixth season consisting of 13 episodes, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The early pickup comes as The Closer spinoff is poised to return for the second half of its fifth season with the final eight episodes airing Feb. 22. The drama, produced by Warner Bros. Television, has ranked as one of cable's most watched series since its debut in 2012. This past summer, the first half of season five drew an average of 10 million viewers across multiple platforms while ranking as one of cable's top dramas among the all-important adults 18-49 demographic.
Major Crimes — TNT's longest-running drama series — The Last Ship and The Librarians (also expected to return for a fourth season) are the only series on the network that predate topper Kevin Reilly.
Major Crimes joins a 2017 slate at TNT that also includes Animal Kingdom, Good Behavior, Will, The Alienist, Claws and Foreign Bodies.
