From Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke, Manifest is described as an "emotionally rich, unexpected journey into a world grounded in hope, heart and destiny." When Montego Air Flight 828 landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. Yet in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years and their friends, families and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina and Parveen Kaur star in the series.

NBC's new drama Manifest revolves around the mystery of Flight 828 from the fictional Montego Airways.

So on Tuesday — 8/28 — NBC is releasing the first act of the show, which sets the hook for the season to come.

Manifest begins with passengers waiting to board a flight, including a family that agrees to split up to get home from their vacation. Flight 828 goes through some serious turbulence in the air but eventually lands safely a few hours later. Or so everyone on board thinks.

It turns out that turbulence somehow erased the plane and its passengers from existence for more than five years: The flight took off in April 2013 but lands on Nov. 4, 2018. The passengers' families, friends and loved ones have assumed they were dead.

The Warner Bros. and Universal TV series comes from creator Jeff Rake and executive producers Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Jackie Levine. David Frankel directed the pilot and and is an executive producer of the episode.

The Manifest cast includes Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina and Parveen Kaur. The show premieres at 10 p.m. ET/PT Sept. 24.
