Emmy-winning Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino have identified their next project for Amazon.

Amazon has optioned author Mary Gabriel's Ninth Street Women for the Palladinos to develop under their overall deal with the studio.

Published in September 2018, Ninth Street Women is set amid the most turbulent social and political period of modern times and chronicles five women — Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell and Helen Frankenthaler — who dared to enter the male-dominated world of 20th century abstract painting as artists (and not muses). These women changed American art and society, tearing up the prevailing social code and replacing it with a doctrine of liberation.

Gabriel, a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award finalist for Love and Capital: Karl and Jenny Marx and the Birth of a Revolution, will serve as a consulting producer on Ninth Street Women. The book was one of Time's 10 best nonfiction titles of 2018 and a New York Times critics' top book of last year.

Ninth Street Women is the first project to stem from the Palladinos' latest overall deal with Amazon Studios. The veteran TV writers and showrunners — who also were behind Netflix's Gilmore Girls limited series revival — renewed their Amazon pact in February. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the period drama starring Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan, has been an awards darling for Amazon and the Palladinos. The hourlong dramedy scored eight Primetime Emmys last year, with Sherman-Palladino making history with wins for both comedy writing and comedy directing. Season three is expected to air in 2019.

The Palladinos are with CAA.
