'Masked Singer' Continues to Rule 7-Day Ratings in Week 3

Three weeks into the 2020-21 TV season, no show is really challenging The Masked Singer as the biggest beneficiary of delayed viewing.

The Fox hit is growing by an average of 2.58 million viewers per episode with a week of delayed viewing (6.29 million to 8.87 million), per Nielsen figures, and adding 0.79 points to its rating among adults 18-49 (1.66 to 2.45). Its average 18-49 gain is 88 percent higher than the second-best show in the rankings, MTV's Teen Mom II, which grows by 0.42 (and starts at a much lower initial rating of 0.35).

The gap between first and second among total viewers is somewhat narrower, but The Masked Singer still leads NBC's Transplant (which grows by 1.96 million people) by about 600,000 people.

The pattern held in the week of Oct. 5, with The Masked Singer putting up bigger delayed viewing numbers than any other primetime show. Its 0.76-point gain in the 18-49 demographic led CBS' Monday edition of Big Brother by 0.31, and it added 311,000 more viewers than did Transplant.

As more scripted series premiere in the coming weeks, The Masked Singer may be pushed down the rankings somewhat. But if it performs similarly to the previous two seasons, it will still be in the upper part of the delayed viewing rankings.
