Matador Content, the producers behind Lip Sync Battle, has secured a multiyear production and development deal with Little Creatures, the company founded by R.J. Cutler and Jane Cha.

Under the new partnership, Cutler and Cha will develop and produce nonfiction projects including docuseries, reality and competition shows for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms under the Matador banner. In addition to Lip Sync Battle, Matador Content has also produced HBO’s Banksy Does New York and ABC’s Boy Band and has the upcoming spinoff Lip Sync Battle Shorties for Nickelodeon as well as Fight World and Who Was for Netflix.

Cutler is a filmmaker and producer behind such projects as The War Room, American High and The September Issue. He also founded and ran the production company Actual Reality Pictures before focusing on his narrative work and feature documentaries. Recent projects include Nashville, the feature film If I Stay and the documentaries The World According to Dick Cheney and Listen to Me Marlon. Cutler is currently at work on a feature documentary about legendary comedian John Belushi for Showtime. Cha, meanwhile, has been an executive producer on Project Runway and several of its spinoffs.

“Matador continues to expand across all content genres, and there are no better partners than R.J. and Jane to further take advantage of our production expertise,” said Matador co-founder Jay Peterson. “We are excited to have R.J. and Jane as active partners in this expansion.”

Added Matador co-founder Todd Lubin: “I’ve been lucky enough to work with R.J. on multiple series. He and Jane are truly best-in-class as trusted voices for intelligent, accurate and honest storytelling. With today’s robust demand for that style of programming, this partnership is well positioned to make some really good entertainment."

Said Cha and Cutler in a joint statement: "We are thrilled to be working with such brilliant producers as Jay and Todd, as well as the entire mighty Matador Team. We're preparing our Lip Sync Battle act as we speak."‎

The deal was brokered by CAA and Jeanne Newman, who represents both Matador and Little Creatures.
