When The Hollywood Reporter named Ryan Seacrest the most powerful player in reality TV, nobody could really argue with that No. 1 ranking.

After all, this is the media entrepreneur who unleashed the ubiquitous Kardashian clan upon the world via his Ryan Seacrest Productions, spinning off Keeping With the Kardashians into other shows starring the tabloid fixtures.

Matt Lauer referenced Seacrest's placement atop THR's 2011 Reality Power List on Wednesday's edition of the Today show during an interview in which the multi-hyphenate American Idol host announced his new gig as a London Olympics correspondent for NBC.

"I was reading in The Hollywood Reporter, they said that when it comes to reality television, you are the most powerful man in Hollywood," said Lauer. "Which is great, it's a huge compliment, you've got the Kardashians and the spin-off from that show and all the spin-offs."

He then asked: "Where do you see reality TV going, Ryan?"

To which Seacrest, ever the businessman, responded: "It's a great storyline. These families are very interesting. There's never a dull moment with the shows we produce. I don't think it's going away. It's also less expensive to produce."
