Burn Notice creator Matt Nix is back on USA, but he's ditched the Hawaiian shirts and mojitos for decidedly darker terrain.

His new series, Complications, which premieres Thursday, June 18, at 9 p.m., centers on emergency-room doctor John Ellison (Terra Nova's Jason O'Mara), who intervenes in a gang shooting to save the life of a young boy.

"The show is about all of the things that come out of this one decision that this doctor makes," says Nix in The Hollywood Reporter's exclusive behind-the-scenes video. "The idea in this show is that nothing that anybody does comes without complications."

In addition to the repercussions of his daring actions, John also is dealing with a major personal loss that has left him a "broken" man. "Complications is intense and driving and really exciting," says Nix. "This is a show that doesn’t stop."

Complications premieres Thursday, June 18, at 9 p.m. on USA.
