Fox has picked up its 12th pilot of the season — and its first from an outside studio.

The network on Thursday handed out a pilot pickup to the Melissa McCarthy- and Ben Falcone-produced comedy Amy's Brother, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The single-camera effort, which landed at Fox with a script order in September, revolves around the unconventional family that is formed when a successful type-A man and his estranged sister, plus her two children, find themselves not only back in each other’s lives but also living under one roof.

Jim Cashman and Mitch Silpa, who both worked with McCarthy and her husband/producing partner Falcone on the feature The Boss, will pen. They also will co-executive produce, while McCarthy and Falcone will exec produce.

This marks the latest producing foray for McCarthy and Falcone, who recently scored an early season-two renewal for comedy series Nobodies at TV Land.

Amy's Brother is produced by Warner Bros. Television. The comedy is Fox's first off-network buy of Pilot Season 2017, with all 11 of its other dramas and comedies produced in-house by studio counterpart 20th Century Fox Television. (The pickup is WBTV's 10th of the season, a strong showing for an independent studio.)

On the comedy side, Amy's Brother is Fox's sixth pilot pickup of the season (the network had eight last year). It joins Ghosted, L.A. to Vegas, Linda From HR, Thin Ice and Type A.

Unconventional family comedies continue to be hot this pilot season. In addition to Fox's Amy's Brother and high-concept entry Linda From HR, ABC has Charlie Foxtrot, Libby and Malcolm, Raised by Wolves and Splitting Up Together; CBS has 9J, 9K, and 9L, Hannah Royce's Questionable Choices and Me, Myself and I; and NBC has Happy Peppers, The Sackett Sisters and untitled half-hours from Mindy Kaling and Kourtney Kang.
