It's the end of the road for Jane (Simon Baker), Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and the team.

The Mentalist bows out with a two-part series finale Wednesday after seven seasons on CBS. The drama series' final two hours center on Jane tracking down a ruthless serial killer by again masquerading as a psychic. At the same time, he's trying to take a major step forward in his relationship with Lisbon.

Tunney and series creator Bruno Heller spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the final episode, and Tunney says it provides "an idea of what [Jane and Lisbon's] future is going to be in a really specific way."

"It's a tall order to try to tie things up and to give people a finale that's deserving of the commitment that they've given the show," she said. "We're serving it all up — it's a smorgasbord of emotions."

According to Heller, the episode offers "closure in the sense of a door closing, but also in the sense of a room on the other side." Tunney then chimed in with: "Another life."

The actress, who made it clear that the closer won't serve fans a "trick ending," said the episode continues what has been a season-long evolution for her character in finding satisfaction outside of work. "Teresa Lisbon gets the happy ending that she's always deserved but hasn't known she wanted," Tunney said.

Both Tunney and Heller agreed that it was a relief for CBS to give the heads-up early on that this would be the final season, with Heller comparing the finale to an encore at a concert. "It's the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' of Mentalist episodes," he joked.

The two-hour series finale airs Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
