Screenwriter and producer Michael Green has signed on overall TV deal at Netflix.

The first project under the deal is Blue Eye Samurai, an animated series Green co-created with Amber Noizumi.

Green is a prolific writer and producer in both the film and TV worlds. He'll develop and produce series projects for the streamer under the deal, which has been in the works for some time.

His credits in television include Starz's American Gods, Netflix's Raising Dion and NBC's Heroes and Kings. On the feature side, he has written or co-written Blade Runner 2049, Logan — for which he and fellow writers Scott Frank and James Mangold earned an Oscar nomination — 2017's Murder on the Orient Express and Disney's upcoming Jungle Cruise.

Blue Eye Samurai is an action series that follows a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise while seeking revenge in Edo-period Japan.

"Our story is a larger-than-life action-adventure that takes place 400 years ago, yet Blue Eye Samurai's themes are of the moment and the inspiration is deeply personal," said Green and Noizumi. "We are grateful for Netflix's passion for this story and for their bold vision for sophisticated animated drama."

The show's cast includes Maya Erskine, George Takei, Masi Oka, Randall Park, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Brenda Song and Darren Barnet. Green and Noizumi will serve as showrunners and executive produce alongside Erwin Stoff. Jane Wu (Gold Mountain, Jackie Chan Adventures) will be supervising director and a producer.

Green joins a roster of creatives with overall deals at Netflix that includes the likes of Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy, Kenya Barris, Mara Brock Akil, Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman and Ricky Gervais, among others.
