Reese Witherspoon Set for 'The Mindy Project's' Final Season

It didn't take long for Reese Witherspoon to book her follow-up TV gig.

The Big Little Lies star and Emmy nominee is set to guest-star on the final season of The Mindy Project, series star and creator Mindy Kaling revealed Tuesday on Instagram.

"Our latest The Mindy Project guest star is the only woman i would want to be trapped in a cave with. (This is weirdly the second cave we have acted in together!)," Kaling captioned a set photo, referring to their time together on the upcoming Disney film A Wrinkle in Time.

However, their ties go beyond the Ava DuVernay film. On season three of The Mindy Project, Kaling's character Dr. Mindy Lahiri famously made a "Wreath Witherspoon," i.e., a wreath featuring images of the Oscar-winning actress. The gag quickly spurred copycats online and Witherspoon even posted about the surprising holiday trend, resharing one of Kaling's posts.

(Aside from the photo, details about Witherspoon's appearance are being kept under wraps.)

The Mindy Project has been known to attract A-listers throughout its six-season run. Other guest stars have included Seth Rogen, James Franco, Shonda Rhimes, Freida Pinto, Stephen Colbert, Greta Gerwig, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Laverne Cox and even Witherspoon's Wild and Big Little Lies co-star Laura Dern. Other final season guest stars include Emmy winner Julie Bowen.

Both Witherspoon and Dern are nominated for their performances in HBO's acclaimed limited series Big Little Lies, with the former also nominated as an exec producer on the drama. The actress, who next graces the big screen in Home Again, is currently shopping a TV series about morning TV shows that would reunite her with Jennifer Aniston. (Witherspoon played Aniston's TV sister on Friends — one of her rare small-screen appearances.)

The Mindy Project's final season kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 12, on Hulu.
