AT&T's Audience Network is adding another high-profile scripted drama to its roster.

The home of originals including Kingdom has handed out a 10-episode straight-to-series order for David E. Kelley's adaptation of Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Brendan Gleeson and Anton Yelchin have been tapped to star in the project produced by Sonar Entertainment. Mr. Mercedes will premiere in 2018 on both DirecTV and AT&T Uverse.

Mr. Mercedes centers on a demented killer who taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he can strike again. Gleeson will play Detective Bill Hodges, a retired cop who is driven out of retirement after an old nemesis reappears, while Yelchin will portray Brady Hartsfield, a mentally deranged ice cream truck driver and IT worker for Cyber Patrol (aka Geek Squad) who is secretly the Mercedes Killer.

The book was published in June 2014 and shot to the top of the New York Times best-seller list before going on to win the Edgar Award for best novel. It is the first of a trilogy from King, with the second novel, Finders Keepers, published in June 2015. The third, End of Watch, is due June 7.

Kelley (Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, The Practice) and Jack Bender (Lost, Under the Dome) will executive produce the series, with the former set to write the first episode and serve as showrunner. Bender, who previously teamed with King on CBS' adaptation of Under the Dome, also will direct. Temple Hill Entertainment's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey also will exec produce alongside Audience Network's Christopher Long and Bart Peters, with Sonar's Jenna Glazier and Tom Patricia additionally attached.

Mr. Mercedes marks the latest scripted original in the works for the Audience Network. The joint venture of AT&T and DirecTV also is home to MMA drama Kingdom, anthology Full Circle and Rogue as well as Michael Dinner's Condor reboot from Jason Smilovic.

For Sonar, the series joins fellow scripted dramas including FX/BBC One's Taboo starring Tom Hardy, AMC's upcoming The Son and MTV's The Shannara Chronicles, which has already been renewed for a second season.

For Gleeson, an Emmy winner for HBO's Into the Storm, Mr. Mercedes marks his largest TV commitment to date. His credits include features Edge of Tomorrow, Troy and Gangs of New York as well as playing "MadEye" Moody in the Harry Potter series. Gleeson is repped by The Agency and Principal Entertainment.

Yelchin, repped by CAA and Sloane Offer, counts playing Chekov in the Star Trek reboot as well as Terminator Salvation among his credits.

For Kelley's part, the series marks his latest TV foray. The Emmy winner also is at work on HBO's Big Little Lies and Amazon's The Trial.
