MTV has thrown its hat into the late-night comedy space.

The cable network has given series orders to The Nikki and Sara Show, a late-night unscripted series to be hosted by stand-up comics Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer.

The weekly series, which will launch later this year, will feature fast-pace jokes, celebrity interviews, man-on-the-street features and pretaped sketches hosted by the duo behind popular podcast You Had To Be There.

"MTV's audience is searching for something fresh and different in late night, and the humor of Nikki and Sara will perfectly fill the void," said MTV programming head David Janollari said in a statement announcing the news Thursday. "They are funny and smart with a little edge sprinkled throughout -- just the right fit for the time slot and our audience."

The project comes as cable networks continue to join the late-night space. FX recently gave series orders to weekly late-night efforts hosted by Russell Brand and exec produced by Chris Rock, with Bravo earlier this year expanding Andy Cohen's talker Watch What Happens: Live to five nights a week. The new entries join fare from Conan O'Brien (TBS) and Bill Maher (HBO).

Schaefer is an Emmy-winning blogger on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, while Glaser is a former semi-finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing. The duo will executive produce alongside Kim Gamble. Rob Anderson helped create and develop the series, with Brent Haynes exec producing for MTV and Shane Tilston overseeing for the young-skewing cable network.
