'My Brilliant Friend' EP Jennifer Schuur Renews HBO Overall Deal (Exclusive)
Jennifer Schuur is putting down deeper roots at HBO.
Schuur, an executive producer of My Brilliant Friend and co-showrunner of the forthcoming In Treatment revival, has renewed her overall deal at the premium cable outlet. She first signed with HBO in 2019.
Under the deal, she'll remain an executive producer on the third season of My Brilliant Friend and co-showrun In Treatment (which is currently in production) with Joshua Allen (Empire). Schuur is also set to write a and executive produce Valentine, a limited series in development at HBO.
Season three of My Brilliant Friend is based on Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay, the third book in Elena Ferrante's series of novels about the decades-spanning friendship between two women.
Half-hour drama In Treatment, meanwhile, will star Emmy winner Uzo Aduba (Mrs. America, Orange Is the New Black) as a therapist. The cast also includes Joel Kinnaman, Anthony Ramos, Liza Colón-Zayas, John Benjamin Hickey and Quintessa Swindell.
The show, which is largely a series of two-character scenes in a therapist's office, makes for easier logistics in filming during the pandemic. Schuur and Allen executive produce with Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and Hagai Levi — all of whom exec produced the series' original run from 2008-10 — and Melissa Bernstein. Noa Tishby and Joanne Toll are co-EPs.
Valentine is based on Elizabeth Wetmore's best-selling novel set in Odessa, Texas, in the 1970s. Schuur is adapting the book and exec producing alongside the author and Salma Hayek and Jose Tamez of Ventanarosa Productions.
Schuur's other credits include Netflix's Unbelievable, NBC's Hannibal and ABC's The Catch. She is repped by Tara Kole at Gang Tyre and UTA.
