Stephen Colbert will be joining CBS, and Jon Stewart reportedly could've gone to NBC recently.

The Daily Show host was in talks with NBC News to replace David Gregory as the host of Meet the Press, reports New York Magazine's Gabriel Sherman, citing "three senior television sources with knowledge of the talks."

Chuck Todd was officially named host of the Sunday political talk show on Aug. 14, following the departure of Gregory, who had hosted the show since 2008.

Stewart, meanwhile, has been on the festival circuit recently in support of his directorial debut, Rosewater, which debuted at the Telluride Film Festival in late August.

NBC News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Shortly after New York Magazine published the report, Todd referenced the story with a nod to The Daily Show's end segment.
